Cycle Scheme Bikes

DT Bicycles on CycleSchemeThe Cycle to Work Scheme is a government backed initiative that allows you to save up to 40% off the price of a new bike through tax and National Insurance savings. It’s open to all UK residents and applies for customers who wish to purchase a bike from DT Bicycles.

What can I buy with the scheme?

All custom built bikes which are built through our normal build queue & which we we have available on our website are available on cycle to work schemes. Some Pre-built and clerance bikes are excluded from the scheme. However, most 3rd party schemes require you to purchase a complete built bike and not just the frame/wheels or individual parts. Employers that are making a direct payment as part of an internal cycle to work scheme must ensure any agreements between the employer and employee follow the government’s information on cycle to work as we can’t accept responsibility for any final decisions made.

Which Cycle Schemes do we accept?

  • Direct payment from employers
  • NHS SME HCI schemes
  • On Your Bike
  • Bike 2 Work
  • Halfords Vouchers

If you’d like to know if we are able to accept any other form of voucher please email us at

How long does the process take?

From the date of the order, you have 28 days to provide us with the voucher. We will contact you once the voucher is received to collect any additional payments (including the admin fee). Once the balance has been paid, we would aim to have the bike built as soon as possible. If a voucher is not provided within 28 days and no contact has been provided to advise us of a delay, a final attempt to contact you will be made before we cancel your order.

Please Note: All our bikes bought through Cycle to Work are built to order. We begin scheduling your bike to be built once we have received your Cycle to Work voucher and have taken the full remaining balance of any additional payments, such as the admin fee. The build time is currently around 21 working days. Please remember to include your daytime contact number on your order. We can then reach you to keep you updated on your bike.

How do I place an order?

Before placing your order, please find out the following:

  • What is the price limit for your cycle to work scheme?
  • Can additional top-up payments be made on top of the cycle to work voucher?
  • How long does it usually take your employer to supply the information to the scheme and to us?
  • What are the terms & conditions from your employer, the scheme provider and from DT Bicycles? (it’s best to check that there are no contraditctions which might cause problems at a later stage)

How do I provide a voucher to DT Bicycles?

Cycle to Work vouchers can be posted to:

Cycle to Work, DT Bicycles, Unit2a, Pontypridd Road, Quakers Yard, Treharris,Nelson, CF46 5EB

A photocopy of some photo-identification (e.g. Driver’s License, Passport) should also be included as well as the order reference.

Vouchers can also be provided as an e-certificate. You can forward this to us by e-mail to with a copy of some photo ID and the order reference.

Additional Payments

An admin fee of 10% applies with, On Your Bike and Bike2work vouchers, as well as Salary Extras. A 12% fee applies with Cycle Plus vouchers and a 12.5% fee applies with the NHS SME HCI scheme.

We keep our prices competitive by selling at very low margins. All of these third-party organisations charge us a fee on each bike we supply to a customer for administering the scheme on behalf of your employer. We pass this exact charge on to you without adding anything extra ourselves because our pricing is too low to absorb it. The additional charge DOES NOT APPLY if an employer is paying us directly for the bike.

Outstanding balances may also exist if you have opted to purchase a bike with a higher value than that covered by the voucher and which has been agreed by employer and scheme. It is your responsibility to check with the employer and scheme to ensure this is accepted by them before placing an order as we cannot be held accountable if this is disputed at a later date.

We will contact you to settle any remaining balances once we have received your voucher/purchase order and will then progress your order for the bike to be built and delivered once the payment for the outstanding amount has been made. If there are any major problems with stock or with the build itself, we will contact you to make you aware so please ensure you have supplied us with a valid contact number to reach you on.

Frequently asked questions:

Who is the legal owner of the bike?

Your employer remains the legal owner of the bike until the end of the lease period. At that point your employer may choose to either keep the bike or sell it to you for a “nominal sum” as laid out in the terms of their scheme.

Do we provide quotes for bikes?

We don’t give formal quotes for bikes. Our offers change frequently depending on stock levels and current demand so we cannot hold prices or specifications on any bikes for any set length of time. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. Having said that, we’ll always aim to have great offer bikes available at no-nonsense prices.

Can I order a bike with a higher value than the voucher and pay the remaining balance myself?

DT Bicycles have no issue with overspend but we do advise you check that your company allows this since not all companies or C2W providers do.

I need a quote. How can I get one as your website states you don’t provide them?

What you need to do is place the order for the bike online, chosing customisation options as necessary. Then checkout and choose the cycle to work payment option. This will then place an order with us without taking any money from yourself. You then need to print out the statement page of your DT Bicycles account statement and confirmation – all our approved schemes accept this as a quote. Once you get your Cycle to Work voucher through, we then have the order already in our system and we can use the Sales Order Number you have been given to process the order.

Can I upgrade components to items not listed on the customise section of the bike page?

No, only the customisation options on the bike product page are available. If what you would like isn’t listed as an upgrade, it will have to be purchased separately.

Can I change a complete groupset on a bike?

No, but fully custom bike builds are available on orders over £1500 only. Please get in touch by email if you are interested in a custom build.

How long does it take from building to shipping?

All bikes are shipped the same day as they are built by 24 hour courier unless alternative preferences are confirmed by the customer in advance. Transit to Nothern Ireland and the Channel Islands can take longer.

Can I use the voucher in person at one of your stores?

Yes you can. To place an order you need to have your voucher with you and pay the admin fee on the day.

Can I Pay by credit/debit card and have the money refunded once we receive the voucher?

No, all cycle to work orders have to be paid from the start by voucher and additional payment.

I now have my voucher. When can I collect my bike?

All bikes are built to order and WILL NOT be released into the build queue until we have both the voucher and admin fee or direct payment from your employer.
